Therefore, it is important to experience a communities’ music before interacting with them since it help in understanding their practices and interest. The methods used to compare various types of ethnic music include: timbre, harmony, rhythm and universals such as: sound perception, scale structures, and melodic contour. Timbre refers to the distinct sound made by various voices and instruments. Harmony refers to the sound created when two or more pitches are combined.
